Storey and Tafero conspired to kill Gunn and frame Harry for it, in the effort to eliminate Harry from the prosecution of Storey. They believed that eliminating Harry would cause the prosecution of Storey's murder charge to fail. (less)

The Bosch books contain a few references to the McCaleb stories, Harry reflects sometimes on the time they knew each other and worked together, but it doesn't detract from the Bosch stories if you have not read the McCaleb stories.

I do recommend however the McEvoy books, starting with The Poet. These stories relate more to Harry's trajectory than do the McCaleb stories. Helpfully, Goodreads has the books numbered in chronological order of their appearance in the Bosch Universe, so you can identify where a McEvoy story or a McCaleb story fits in sequence. This sequencing applies later as well to the Haller and Renee stories, you can see when they occur in the greater timeline of Harry's stories.(less)
