Can this be read without reading the first one? I'm such a stickler for following series order but I've heard that this one is much better than the first.

The book makes it clear who this person is for anyone who might have forgotten and you can get the hints for why their relationship is the way it is.

But I'd say the second book isn't so much better that you're better off skipping the first. They're both quick reads. (less)
