A character says, "Let's talk about something else [other than the murder]. I can keep up my pecker in the face of anything else but a corpse." While I agree on one level, what, exactly does 'pecker' mean in this context? (We're attending a 1929 English country house party.) Thanks!

Dorothy Willis It’s old fashioned Victorian slang for courage, heart. It disappeared quickly when the American slang meaning took over.

Ann He found it by the stairs after Campion and one of the thugs had the fight early in the morning as he (Campion) was going to slip away with it as per …moreHe found it by the stairs after Campion and one of the thugs had the fight early in the morning as he (Campion) was going to slip away with it as per his mission at the time. It must have fallen out of Campion's pocket in the brawl.(less)
