The Sandman was a Golden Age comic book hero, who debuted in 1939. Gaiman took the name and the concept of sleep and dreams, but that's about the only relation. This book is about the mystery man adventures of the original character.
There is a nod to Gaiman's Sandman on the first page of the first issue, though.(less)
