I actually personally knew Karen Carpenter and from what I have heard from people that have read this book as being 'truth' to these readers is not actual truth. Karen was originally diagnosed with arrhythmia after her hospitalizations in 1975 and 1977. I talked with Karen personally many times without others around on many occasions (September 6, 1978 to June 22, 1979 and June 12, 15 to 18, 1981, and Karen called me on February 3, 1983) and Karen knew the difference between arrhythmia and anorexia. Arrhythmia is irregular heartbeat and anorexia is an eating disorder. Karen was very adamant about not being kept alive by a machine. The only treatment for arrhythmia is a pacemaker. You do not read this in "Little Girl Blue". You do get a bunch of interviews and such in the book, but a lot of the commentary and such must be misleading as much of the stuff I hear from people that have read "Little Girl Blue" does not match the information that I had from Karen Carpenter herself. And as an added bonus for reading this, Olivia Newton - John and Dionne Warwick would both know me as the boy that put the racing stripe down the middle of Karen's face as a practical joke back in 1979 I believe. Another tidbit, Richard Carpenter came and saw me personally not too long after he made the decision to pull the plug on his sister. Richard found the airline tickets that Karen had in her hollowed out Bible (Karen's stash) and jumped on a plane and met his Cousin Wendy at the airport and then Wendy took Richard to where Karen had planned to go which was a high school in New York State to the guy writing this reply that Karen was planning to elope with. Honestly, there is quite a bit missing from this book. More honestly, there really isn't anything written that has Karen's full story out there. This book has tidbits here and there as far as interviews and such, but most of the commentary misses the mark as far as Karen's actual story. An extra thing here as I finally did read this (e-book edition) and I did a commentary page on it here http://www.theeaceman.com/littlegirlb... .(less)
