Despite Eric Metaxas's best attempts, I don't think Bonhoeffer would be a card-carrying Republican, but he has a profound love for Jesus as saviour and redeemer, which is usually seen as central to conservative theology today. Yet, he's much deeper than most, without being inaccessible in his writing. Sometimes in reading the Cost of Discipleship, I found I could read a single line and stop. It was enough. I think every Christian (conservative, liberal, whatever) should take some time to wrestle with Bonhoeffer. (less)
