Does the book flow and keep you captivated, or does it have lots of description and unneeded info like a Charles Dickens or Victor Hugo book? I don't mean to sound uneducated or lazy, but I'm looking for a semi easy read, like a Jane Austen or a Charlotte Bronte kind of book.

I want to try Lorna Doone for the first time. These reviews say the language is difficult, so I'd like to try the movie first to know what the basic story is before I begin. There seem to be a lot of movie versions so I need to know which is best so I don't accidently try the worst one and then hate the story. Please advise?
