Even though it's te…moreThe way I understand it boils down to this: Everything having to do with the plot is delivered to us by unreliable points of view. Even though it's technically an omniscient narrator, it's filtered through characters who are either making things up (like the saxophone teacher) or not giving us an objective look at what's happening. The girls at the school don't really hear what happened between Victoria and Mr. Saladin; what they hear is gossip. We, as readers, are in the same boat, and not just with the story of Victoria and Mr. Saladin, but also with every other character and story line.
