The lead characters of the first book …moreSorry for the late answer, but I think it's alright to read this book without reading the others in the series. The lead characters of the first book "Some Sort of Spell" have a minor role in "Gentle Deception" but you get enough info about them that you don't get too confused. The characters of the second and third books do not feature at all. Gentle Deception works equally well as a standalone.(less)
