His talent is amazing, and he was very fun to listen to. His covers aren't supposed to be a literal picture of Mercy. The cover image represents what kind of story is inside. You'll notice books the tattoos reflect what kind of adversaries Mercy faces in the novel. She has bat-like tattoos for vampire stories, and wolf-like tattoos for werewolf stories, etc.(less)

Part of it is to catch paranormal romance fans, and part of it is just because that's how they signal to the readers that it is Urban Fantasy. (The other main kind of cover is Detective-Trenchcoat-Mist) We're finally seeing a little more variety in newer books, but back in 2006 that was pretty much guaranteed.(less)
