There is a quick mention of a tourist excursion to see mission ruins in Monterey. For me, he didn't do any glossing over of Asian immigrants, or of the many other immigrants who helped shape California. Most all of the Hispanic references are of migrant workers from Mexico. The author does bring much depth to the complicated history of California, both north and south. By way of explanation, my roots in California are from "Okies", Oklahomans who came to California during the depression of the 30s. It was meant as a slur. Happy reading.(less)
