It is an incredibly old concept, so if not this book, you could likely find other on the topic quite easily.(less)

Page references may change, but everything should be the same conceptually. (less)

After all, this book is actually from the 1970's and still going strong! Your best bet is, if your retailer is charging too much, go to a different retailer; you may even want to look for it second-hand, as it has had so many print-runs. Alternatively, this is an old concept that has been written about extensively, and still is explored, so consider not purchasing this original book but a more modern interpretation by a different author.(less)

Dr. Rosenberg feels we can heal the world and end conflict by using a style that involves stating either the behaviour or our understanding of what is said, our reaction to it, the consequence/effect, our need that is not being met, and finally a *specific* request on something the person can do to meet our need.

Whether it works is a matter up for some debate. In theory, all the person needs is to articulate themselves and let it into the universe (your direct goal should not be changing another's behaviour, even if that is the request). In reality, some people can be put into danger for stating such information. However, it is a great skill for everyone to have when it may work and is a standard communication method among professionals, particularly those in psychology, social work and medicine.(less)

As previously stated, this book is incredibly old - a standard which is reprinted repeatedly, but from the 1970's - meaning there are tons of second-hand copies floating around and a version of it is in practically every public library. Alternatively, the concept is written about so extensively, if you cannot obtain this book that started it all, you can easily find another book on the topic.(less)
