My mom get tired of us saying, "There's nothing to do," and found this book, which my brother and I shared with our friends on the block. We did many of the activities, and I'm sure it kept us out of our mom"s way. In terms of violence, no, there's nothing violent. However, back in the 50s, many of us had jackknives, and jackknives are used to play the game mumbldy peg. Sure, there were occasional cut fingers, but we hid them from parents. It was a different culture back then. I walked alone a mile to and from grade school. I played in the "crick" that ran behind houses. In the summer, we went out the back door in the morning and didn't come back home until lunch time. So, no, this book contains no violent activities (unless you also consider kick-the-can, hide-and-seek, and various forms of tag violent). Whittling and mumbldy peg require jackknives, so I guess you might worry about danger today. I still have the book.(less)
