But literally, the outfit she's wearing on the cover--the white shirt and red short shorts? That was my high school gym outfit. :D

I changed the names of towns and geography to suit my needs (and to protect the innocent...or guilty), but I lived in Mt. Zion, IL, which was a stand-in for Groundsboro. Both of them are just outside of Decatur. When someone talks about the smell of ADM and/or Staley's in the book, I know that smell because I lived there.

Basically, it was my first time writing a YA novel, and I was nervous enough about writing characters who were so much younger that I wanted everything else to be something familiar.

Fun story: When I wrote the first draft, waaaaay back in 2007, my sister read it for me as she was in high school at the time. At the end, she told me she really liked it but she wanted to know why no one was using cell phones.

And it dawned on me--I'd left them out because no one was using cell phones like that (and smart phones didn't even exist) in 1993.

So, every cell phone mention in the first book was added after the fact.

All of that being said, none of the characters are based on real people. Though, I did borrow a certain last name from someone who wasn't the nicest to me in high school. ;)(less)

But my editor has since moved on to another company and I'm honestly not sure if the publisher would be interested. I did write a short story to give a little more information about Will and Alona's future. You can read it on my website: http://www.staceykade.com/wills-new-a...(less)

I hope so, anyway. :D I definitely had the intention to be funny, I hope you find it to be so as well! It's considered, I think, a romantic comedy, if that helps.

Thank you for reading the series! (less)

She doesn't like the implications of ghost, preferring spirit at least, and he's not a goth. It goes into my whole love of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, which was originally titled First Impressions! :) (less)

If I answer this, it's totally a spoiler so...How about this? They definitely become very close. ;) And they are definitely more than just friends. But how that's defined is a little confusing for everyone. (less)
