Is it just me or did the maintenance men at the hotel change into security guards halfway through the book?!?

Chris Donatti describes his argument with his wife being interrupted by... ""one of the f-ing gardeners or maintenance men or whatever the f-k he is...." Later in the novel, the police interview that man. He was a security guard that had recently been laid off. He was not a maintenance man. So... no real conflict. It simply shows that the Chris Donatti character carelessly dismisses people he judges to be no threat. A "mall cop" would be no threat to him.(less)
