Have any readers noticed how McEwan works with time in this novel? I remember in some sections time sped up and in others, slowed to a crawl. I'm sorry some found this a dull book. I found it fascinating and technically brilliant.

Do you find out what has happened to the Stephen's daughter? Is there a greater amount of detail in the life of the friend (the individual with the child-like mind)? Having just watched the BBC adaptation, I feel like there are pieces missing - typical of adaptations, I'm aware. I'm quite content to proceed with reading the book, but I'd like to know if it's going to answer that which remains presently unanswered.

Wow. I was melted by Stephen for loving his lost child still. I was always wondering if all dads would forget their sons and daughters after they've lost them. Well, I don't know why I logged in here and commented just to say this boring nonsense. I suddenly realized that maybe, maybe Kate is still somewhere, somewhere thinking and searching for her dad too? ~I am Kate
