I googled George R.R. Martin's first book and found this. Is this book complex or does it have a plot that's easy to follow?

James Henderson I did not find the book to be too complex, but as I noted in my review the narrative seemed to drag a bit in the beginning.

I've read The Complete Dreamsongs, which contains several of GRRM's 1000 Worlds short stories. Would you say that's enough background in the 1000 Worlds to appreciate this?
