It is a young adult novel with a teenager as narrator and protagonist and the plot centers on this young man's adventures learning bridge. This is not mainly a love story although there are some love story aspects along the way. Sachar is a children's author who loves duplicate bridge, so he wrote a young adult book that centered on people playing bridge.(less)
