Who wrote "Dustin Hoffman" rather than "Peter Sellers"? The protagonist wasn't portrayed by hoffman!

I'm interested in what this book had to say about dehumanization, identity, media culture and worth in the post-WWII world. Would you agree that Chance became such a marble man because he started from a place of dehumanization (ie socially invisible, essentially a domestic slave)? Written in the early seventies, do you feel that it ends up critiquing our modern internet/reality-show/sycophantic world?
