Does anything cruel/dreadful happen to any of the dogs in this book? I adore dogs and want to read this (my library has it) but I am really sensitive about animals. Natural death is fine or even an unavoidable accident but I can't bear intentional cruelty. I would appreciate anyone who has read this book letting me know.

Lila I would give it a pass. Elizabeth is a contradiction. She loves her dogs, but if she feels circumstances require it, she will put them down.
