The distinction between Atheism and Agnosticism is generally misunderstood. One common misperception is that Atheism represents a militant approach to the denial of Godhood, while Agnosticism represents a more polite doubting. Actually, they live in two distinct realms. At their roots, Atheism is related to belief, while Agnosticism is related to knowledge. Thus, personally, I am not separately an Agnostic or an Atheist, but an Agnostic Atheist: I don't believe in any Gods, but I don't know for sure that there are no gods. Another person might be a Gnostic Atheist: they don't believe in any Gods, and they know for sure that there are no Gods, etc. (less)
