Which, needlessly, also left the ending a bit of disappointment. I'll avoid spoilers by saying that a pivotal character's fate was left unresolved. Indeed, the main protagonist even comments on the uncertainty within the book itself. And an item, which the second half the book made seem like would eventually play an important role ended up playing no role whatsoever in the outcome of events. I think IF a sequel had been written then those situations would have ultimately played out but, as it was, they felt either unresolved or pointless.(less)
