Guys, what happens if I start reading the book Predator first instead of the first book? Will I miss details that can alter this book for me to understand?

Read Postmortem after reading about five other Scarpetta books. Thoroughly enjoyed the book and it was fun to see how Scarpetta's relationship with Marino develops after knowing where it ends up.(less)

Does this book count as a true crime? I read that it was based on some crimes in Richmond in the summer of 1987.

Sheri This is not true crime, she was inspired to write the book by the crimes that occurred in 1987 but her characters and details are fictional.

On p. 82 (chapter 5) Benton Wesley says: "Take Gacy. We've got no idea how many people he murdered. Thirty-three kids. Possibly it was hundreds. Strangers, all of them strangers to him. Then he does his mother and stuffs pieces of her down the garbage disposal...." Except John Wayne Gacy didn't kill his mother. She died a natural death when he was in prison. Explanation?
