I might have felt more engaged reading Speaks the Nightbird second, like watching a prequel. That said, I plan to read the remaining books in order. McCammon can sure spin a tale by balancing character development, plot momentum, dialogue, description and metaphor, introspection into characters' psyches, and creativity in ways few can. (less)
