I picked this book up not realising it's Book 2. Can I start with this one?

Maria Rose I didn't read the first book, which I am assuming covers the widespread births of these children and the reasoning behind the shunning of them because…moreI didn't read the first book, which I am assuming covers the widespread births of these children and the reasoning behind the shunning of them because of their differences by the "regular " society, plus tell how those 4-5 mothers had to be isolated from everyone into a high containment setting. But I was able to read this book and see the major storyline facts.(less)

Did anybody else noticed how in the 1st book Mitch is refers as an anthropologist and in this one as an archaeologist?
