White (or at least she always thought she was) mother married to a white…moreI'm trying to find a memoir or bio that I remember with exactly this premise. White (or at least she always thought she was) mother married to a white man, who gives birth to a darker skinned child, and goes digging into her own (and possibly her husband's) ancestry. She too is suspected by family/friends/acquaintances, including her husband, of having an affair. Again, this was either a memoir or a bio, *by* the mother of the child. That is, it's not from the POV of the child, is not fiction, etc. I also have a query about this in "What's the Name of That Book???" (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...), but I'm checking here as well because the premise is so exactly what I'm remembering but is fiction instead, so I'm wondering if it is inspired by the other book that I'm trying to remember.(less)
