If the first story is anything to go by, the stories are bleak and depressing. The first story is set in the UK; however, the writer doesn't manage the transition from Canadian to UK English. This is most notable in the grammar and use of prepositions. The style is very stilted. I expected something better from somebody who has received the Booker prize. Would most definitely NOT recommend this book
