Would you class this character/novels as modern version of hard-boiled noir detective in the same genre Sam Spade, Lew Archer, Philip Marlowe etc?

Did anyone else find it odd the small references about body image and size that were thrown in? Like they stood out to me but didn't have anything to do with the story. Example, she mentions the lady who has fat under her arms then later chooses to eat like a salad (or something like that) so that she doesn't end up with arms like her. Other women are described as being plump, it just seemed unnecessary.
