Helen Interesting since my copy (Corgi paperback, 1990) has 412 pages. Remember that this is a Discworld novel so we may have entered L space.

There are some adult themes that are not explicitly written about. There are subtleties that might be missed by younger readers. I just re-read the book, and it still has as much relevance as it did when it first came out.

If looking for something Terry Pratchett for younger readers, try Wee Free Men. It's just as good, but is intended for a younger audience.(less)

They were given a thick background document from me and they spent a lot of time exploring the world and meeting characters. Your players don't need background. They need to have a reason to hang out together (they're all wizards, or in the guard or in the Assassin's guild, or some other fourth thing). After you spend a game session creating their characters, and talking about the kind of things they want to do, it should be easy to come up with the first scenario and going from there.

I had read most of the books when I did my campaign, so I could always come up with something exciting from the 'lore'. In this case they all know what you know. Having a battery of Discworld characters of your own that are new and have interesting backgrounds can really make things interesting. (less)
