Is this full of Christian undertones? Cause if its all about finding God, I'd rather pick up another book.
Michelle I think any talk of a spiritual connection is more in regards to relying on a "higher power" which is essentially in trying to connect with something …moreI think any talk of a spiritual connection is more in regards to relying on a "higher power" which is essentially in trying to connect with something greater than yourself in order to stop drinking and stay sober - it is a common undertone in the second half of the book while she seeks sobriety and starts going to a 12 step program - it really has nothing to do with religion.(less)

I leant my marked-up copy of “Lit” to someone who did not return it. I'm trying to find a quote about Mary Karr's father. She wrote something like, "We didn't talk about how much we loved each other...we allowed out actions to be like monuments to that love." Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Why doesn't she let us know simple facts? Where she went to college? Her husband's name. Even the Texas town where she grew up? Her gloss over sexual abuse, not once, but twice, boggles my mind. Her choice, but in two memoirs? Skittish for supposedly earthy memoirs. No, I don't want details except for the fall out. I loved "The Liar's Club". Did she balk? I wouldn't blame her.

Non-fiction, especially memoirs, sometimes require composite characters, pseudonyms, and paraphrasing of conversations in order to preserve privacy or the safety of those involved. However she wants to tell it is up to her. It's her experience and she isn't beholden to you or anyone else to tell the entire traumatic story if she doesn't want to. (less)
