I see the site as being like a global book club; you can leave reviews on books and discuss all sorts of things, but you don't access the books through here.

If you mean in general, this one hasn't been published yet, but maybe check out your local library when it is in case it gets it in.(less)

I see it more like a cyber book club of sorts; you discuss books and get recommendations and things here, but you don't actually read them here. There are other services - like local libraries - that let you do that, but this isn't one of them.

And that would be due to choice and funding. To provide a lending service, you'd need to get permission from, at the very least, the publishing companies whose books you want to use. And the companies that did agree would require some form of payment. Even libraries, where you don't directly pay when you borrow books, buy the books they stock through taxpayer money. But Goodreads aren't government-funded, so they wouldn't be able to provide books without finding some way to pay for them. And that would either be through adding sign up fees or through a fee-per-read system. Doing the former would make it harder for people to access Goodreads, which would then make it harder for the creators to achieve what they actually want to achieve. And, either way, it wouldn't be free.(less)
