I read the article about this book in the Sunday New York Times magazine and as a RN for almost 50 years experience, 10 of them in a busy inner city E.R. I thought how does this new young RN with such little experience end up here?! What 'raised my eyebrows' was her comment about ER nurses and how none of them believe in an afterlife. Where did she get this impression from a very limited experience in the ER?

It isn’t fair for her to malign all ER nurses with a broad brush, but the reader who considers her very limited experience at that point in her career probably understands that what she’s talking about is just her individual experience. However, it’s possible that a lot of people who’ve experienced ER nurses like the ones she describes in the book will find her comments valid. One on call, Hospice nurse of my acquaintance was a former emergency room and surgical nurse who turned into hospice work for the same reasons Hadley describes.(less)
