How difficult is this book? I'm wondering if it would be worth attempting in the original Spanish at my current intermediate level. I've read Harry Potter and Hemingway translations that weren't too bad but kind of struggled with a Gabriel García Márquez short story.

I'm reading this book and struggling to finish it, but it is considered a master piece and a must-read. So far, I find the beginning kind of boring and forgettable despite the good prose. I'm in the 17% of the book. Is it really worth it or should I quit now?

That said, it's not going to resemble a conventional plot-driven novel where X happens, then Y, culminating in Z so if that's what you like I wouldn't read further.(less)
