From what I've read in various places/reviews, the author said there would be more books, left this one in a cliffhangar, subsequently bailed on the series and neither him nor his agent has responded to any requests for information. Is that the gist of it?

Felix I read somewhere that the writer was in early stages of Alzheimer.
