I've never played the game nor do I intend to. Would this just be a cool sci/fi series? Or do you have to have played the games to appreciate it? If the latter, is there a series out here that is similar in its seeming epicness? Thanks!

The only daunting thing about the Horus Heresy books and the Warhammer Universe in general is the vast number of books the Black Library has produced- there's 29 books already in the Horus series set about 30,000 years in the future and maybe a hundred or so set 10,000 years later than that, with more being written all the time. Don't expect Hugo Award winning literature but if you like military fiction set in space it's loads of fun. (less)
