When I was thinking about the political situation in my fictional Federated States and its relationship with its neighbours, I had this in mind:

"The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia."

Also, you might have spotted that the neighbouring cruise ship that is cleared at the start of the book (and the news reported in the leaflets in chapter 1) is called the Oceania - the name of the state that is Winston's home in 1984.

The Hunger Games was defo my inspiration for writing a fast-paced adventure story.
