Wondering about the temporal setting in this book? Considering the book is set in the current time - 2022 - it means Cass was born around 2004 and Dickie was at Trinity early 2000, Frank was born around 1985 and Morris around 1958. Yet the scenes from the past - for all the characters Imelda, her dad, Morris, Frank and Dickie - evokes the attitudes and ways resembling decades earlier?

The author was born in 1975, so I think he is writing from their generational perspective. So the post 2008 recession for present day makes sense, also because there were historic floods that year. BUT, how does the pedophile location track PJ in 2008 or 2009? Seems a bit advanced for that time frame. (less)
