Gives a pretty good account of the events that happened as the Titanic sunk particularly things that went wrong leading to the massive loss of lives.

Weaknesses: At some points it feels as if it provides to much extraneous detail (like what a bunch of different people were wearing at the time), at others it seems lacking in details. For example a bunch of names are thrown out but I never really felt like I "knew" who any of the people were.(less)

I believe the theme of the book is no matter what be brave and don't just give up. I know this because the story is about people drowning in the Titanic and how some were brave enough to jump over or to get a lifeboat so they were saved and some weren't brave and scared to jump over so they sunk. Also, you are being brave by staying calm and risking your life for the younger kids and women.?

This is real life. Some people are incomparably strong and some are crippled by terror. Some people are trained to lead in adversity and some are born to do it, while others of us are simply unable to bear the weight of fear and fail altruism. This is why this book is so fascinating. Real people did what they did because they were human--not an author's creation. So many mistakes were made because humans are greatly flawed. I was uplifted by this book because of all the stories of great courage and selflessness. I absolutely hated James Cameron's Titanic movie. I thought it was sophomoric and boring. Had to ff to get through it. If only he had made THIS movie. It would have been a masterpiece of the human condition.

The theme is to live life to the fullest and with no regrets. A detail is that when the Titanic hit the iceberg people thought the big screeching noise was someone had dropped a plate in the kitchen. And once the people were finding out what actually happened. There was some that were thinking the "what ifs" What if I didn't get on this boat on this night would this still happen?

I feel like the people didn't regret getting on the boat because this was the boats first trip, and the boat was very nice and fancy. The people were living their lives to the fullest by taking this trip instead of staying home. I also think the Titanic crashing and sinking had nothing to do with the boat and how it was built, overall it was a nice boat. But the captain wanted to show off its speed and ended up crashing.(less)
