I picked this one up at a thrift store for under a dollar. Is it possible to read this as a stand alone or do I have to read the 10 earlier books?

NOTE: After finishing this book I discovered there is a book about these same characters that comes before it. If you can find "Magi'i of Cyador" , read it first(less)
