I'm currently reading EW's novels a second time, this time in chronological order. I just finished The Reef and the final chapter left the story unresolved and me slightly bewildered. Am I missing something, or were there strong implications in the final chapter that Sophy's sister was a prostitute? Since Sophy had been staying with her sister, was EW perhaps hinting that Sophy was very promiscuous, also?

I do think that Anna finally slept with Darrow before that last trip to Paris, and I hope she marries him. But if she does, she will always doubt him. Many marriages are based on that level of distrust. I do hope that Owen doesn't end up with Sophy (imagine those family holidays!) but I also don't think Darrow is good enough for the bright, honest Sophy. I hope she finds someone new!(less)

I just finished reading The Reef (on Kindle) and wondered if there is a missing chapter at the end. My version ends with Anna's visit to Sophy's sister, the sister yelling to call a cab for Anna. That's it! Is the print version different?
