Are the stories tied together or can the be read separately?

Paxton Pettit They can be read separately. I haven’t yet read the first one. But I enjoyed the second book.

Unanswered Questions (1)

I'm enjoying this book, but it feels like Walter was locked into a contract for a sequel or something, and this was his work-around to get out of doing a series. I'm 70 percent through and only about 40 pages have featured the characters from Over Tumbled Graves, and those pages have been pretty incidental to the narrative. Did anybody hear about a spat over the contract or something?
