You wouldn't rely on the unnamed narrator of these stories to go to the drugstore for you, or take your car to the car wash, or babysit your little sister, but when he talks to you, you believe every word he says. Why would Denis Johnson make him such a reliable narrator when he's such a fuckup - even by his own admission - about everything else?
