Cultural aspects aside, why is Maame so devoted to her father? There's no basis for it...he was always distant, they barely had a relationship growing up & were never close. Her debilitating grief didn't make sense.

When you see that hope in someone's eyes, that they trust you and that they feel safe with you around, that you will take care of them. That feeling surpasses any weakness or exhaustion you might have. The smile on her father's face as she would enter. That is all that one needs. You may not have been close all your life. But such situations bring you close. And in this little time you get far more love than your entire life otherwise.(less)
