I loved the Midnighters series by Westerfeld as well and feel like it has similar writing and great pacing even though the setting and magic are very different.

I also have a few steampunk recommendations you might enjoy:

Airborn by Kenneth Oppel and its sequels are a great series you might enjoy too. They are adventures following a cabin boy in an airship-- sort of a "treasure island" variation on this theme.

Arabella of Mars is another interesting steampunk adventure-- this time with airships that fly between Earth and a very different Mars

If you enjoyed the romantic aspects of this series and want a steampunk series that is heavier on that, Gail Carriger's steampunk world has several series set in it that have a lot of the fun, fantastical elements of this world, with a more Victorian vibe. Her "Finishing School" series is probably the one I enjoyed most and where I'd start.(less)
