It's kind of a dark book-- there are sections about depression, police violence, domestic violence, and multiple deaths. This could absolutely be read by teens & tweens who are capable of handling these topics-- might not be right for every tween out there, but certainly appropriate for some. The fantasy universe is interesting and different from most other "fantasy" books.(less)
