Am I the only one who thought this book was to observative? like Eva's cousin just walking around the "berg" telling everyone else's story? the realtionships werent that well evolved. agree?

Janis Mills I kept thinking that I had read a book with a certain style similar to this novel. It did seem "observative" and thank you for pointing that out. Also the relationships were not that well evolved but after 55 years it can be hard to fully remember all the relationships of that long ago. More like snapshots than fully recalled events and relationships. I do want to know if the cellar dweller was true or was it a fictionalized character used as a device by the author.(less)

In the first chapter the character speaks about touring the bunker in the mountaintop home of Hitler 50 years after the end of the war. How could she have explored the ruins if the home was razed after the war so it would not be a tourist attraction?
