The Bosch character started it all, so you could go back to the beginning with The Black Echo - it's the first Bosch novel and introduces his worldview and grit. But if you're really intrigued by Renee Ballard's character, you could go with The Late Show. It's her debut and shows her navigating the night shift in LAPD.(less)
