I first read this book back in elementary school. I found it painful and fascinating back when I was in 5th grade. Maybe, it was my first encounter with an anti hero of sorts. Upon rerereading with the perspective of a mother of a child with Aspergers, I think Jessica could be seen as struggling with issues stemming from autism spectrum disorder, in addition to other stresses. Anyone else agree?
