In fact, Silva said that he never expected the first Gabriel Allon book to become a series because of his main character. Further, we see the political behavior of many other countries in this series - notably Russia, UK, USA and Switzerland. So his adding (more) American politics lately is just another flavor to the mix. He's the author, he takes the risk. Readers will or will not follow him there.(less)

Vicki They stand alone, but you will understand the ongoing characters much better and in my opinion get more enjoyment from the book.
