Carol Georgia and Landon were both from a small town. I think she knew him, or of him, well enough to pass it along to him, but it is not really explained.

So the flash drive -- it had pictures of trees on it. That really had nothing to do with anything, right? Just Landon having the flash drive proved that the camera had been found?(less)
